Description

LACIV 209, JUDGMENT BASED ON SISTER-STATE JUDGMENT (Code Civ. Proc, § 1710.25). A sister-state judgment is a judgment obtained in one state that is recognized and enforced by another state. In California, a party seeking to enforce a sister-state judgment may file a petition or motion with the court, which, if granted, will result in a judgment being entered in California based on the sister-state judgment. Code of Civil Procedure § 1710.25 sets out the requirements for obtaining a judgment based on a sister-state judgment in California. In general, the party seeking to enforce the sister-state judgment must file an application with the court, provide certain documentation, and demonstrate that the sister-state judgment meets certain requirements. The form requires the party to provide information about the sister-state judgment, including the date it was entered and the court where it was entered, as well as information about the parties involved in the case. Once the court grants the motion or petition and enters a judgment based on the sister-state judgment, the judgment is enforceable in California as if it had been originally entered in California.
