State of Alabama Unified Judicial System Form JU-18 Rev. 6/13 Court Case Number NOTIFICATION OF RIGHTS (Name of County) IN THE JUVENILE COURT OF ______________________________________________________ COUNTY, ALABAMA In the Matter of _____________________________________________________________________________, a child (Name of Child) THIS IS TO INFORM YOU THAT: 1. The child has a right to be represented by a child's attorney at all stages of the juvenile court proceeding. The parent, legal guardian, or legal custodian also, has the right to be represented by legal counsel. 2. If you, as the child, are unable to pay for a child's attorney and if your parents, legal guardian, or legal custodian have not provided a child's attorney, one will be appointed for you by the Court. 3. If you, as the parent, legal guardian, or legal custodian, wish to be represented by an attorney and think you cannot afford an attorney, you may complete a sworn Affidavit of Substantial Hardship which will be reviewed by the Court and, if you are determined to be indigent or partially indigent, an attorney may be appointed to represent you. 4. If an attorney is appointed to represent you, as a parent, legal guardian, or legal custodian, and, after a hearing, it is determined at this time or at some point in the future you would be able to pay for the services of an attorney, you will be ordered to reimburse the State of Alabama for any attorney's fees paid on your behalf. 5. If your child is adjudicated to have committed an act of delinquency, you, as the child's parent, legal guardian or legal custodian, may be ordered to pay restitution for damages resulting from your child's acts, a fine of up to $250.00, a mandatory contribution to the Alabama Crime Victims' Compensation Fund, attorney's fees (if an attorney is appointed to represent to represent you or your child), and court costs in each case. 6. You, as the parent, legal guardian or legal custodian, may be ordered to perform any reasonable acts determined by the court to be in the best interests of your child. 7. If an out-of-home placement or commitment of your child is made, you, as the parent, legal guardian, or legal custodian, may be ordered to pay child support for the child in an amount determined based upon your income in accordance with Rule 32, Alabama Rules of Judicial Administration. Any and all entitlement or benefits paid for the benefit of the child will be ordered redirected to the child's physical/legal parent, legal guardian, or legal custodian. 8. You, as the child, are not required to say anything, and anything you say may be used against you. 9. You, as the child, have the right to communicate with your parents, legal guardians, or legal custodians whether or not those persons are present. Reasonable means will be provided for you to do so. 10. You, as the child, have the right to communicate with your attorney, even if your attorney is not present or has not yet been appointed. Reasonable means will be provided for you to do so. 11. IF YOU, AS THE CHILD, ARE PLACED IN DETENTION: a. You will be fully informed of the reasons for your detention. b. You will have a detention hearing within 72 hours of your placement in detention. c.
