Description
Form MC 274 - ORDER FOR MEDIATION CIVIL; DOMESTIC RELATIONS; CHILD PROTECTION. This form is used by a Michigan court to order the parties in a civil, domestic relations, or child protection case to participate in mediation. Mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) intended to help parties resolve their disputes outside of a full court trial. The order may be issued by agreement of the parties, by motion of a party, or on the court’s own initiative, under applicable Michigan Court Rules (such as MCR 2.410, MCR 3.216, or MCR 3.970). The form identifies the mediator selected by the parties or assigns one if they fail to do so within the specified timeframe. It sets a deadline—typically 30, 60, or 90 days—for the mediation to be completed, outlines how costs and fees are to be divided among the parties, and establishes expectations for attendance and participation. The court may require attorneys and key individuals with settlement authority to attend, either in person or by phone. Approved, SCAO. MCL 552.13, MCR 2.410(C), MCR 3.216(C), MCR 3.970. www.FormsWorkflow.com
