HUD-11708 - REQUEST FOR RELEASE OF DOCUMENTS. This form is used by issuers participating in the Government National Mortgage Association (Ginnie Mae) mortgage-backed securities program to formally request the release of specific mortgage documents held by a document custodian. Required under Section 306(g) of the National Housing Act and the Ginnie Mae MBS Guide (Handbook 5500.3, Rev. 1), this form allows issuers to access mortgage files for reasons such as mortgagor payoff, delinquent loan buyouts, foreclosure actions, loss mitigation efforts, substitutions, or other special assistance or loan removals. Once released, the issuer is required to hold the documents in trust for the benefit of Ginnie Mae and its securities holders, and must return them when they are no longer needed—unless the mortgage is paid in full or otherwise disposed of according to Ginnie Mae’s policies.
