FORM NLRB-502 (UD) - UD PETITION. This form is used to request an election to remove a union's authority to require employees to pay union dues or fees as a condition of employment. Governed by Section 9(e) of the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), this petition must be filed by at least 30% of employees in the bargaining unit who seek to rescind this requirement. If the petition meets the necessary criteria, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) will conduct a secret ballot election. For the deauthorization to be successful, a majority of all employees in the unit—not just those voting—must vote in favor of removing the dues requirement. If the vote passes, employees will no longer be required to pay union dues or fees to maintain their jobs, though the union may still act as their bargaining representative.
