PTO/SB/68 - REQUEST FOR ACCESS TO AN ABANDONED APPLICATION UNDER 37 CFR 1.14. This form is used to obtain the official file record of an abandoned U.S. patent application that has been referenced in, or claims benefit from, a published patent application, issued U.S. patent, or international patent publication. This form allows a member of the public to request access to the abandoned application through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Certified Copy Center (CCC). Under the applicable regulations, the public may view or purchase copies of certain abandoned or pending applications if they are identified in official publications or incorporated by reference in another patent-related document. The form requires details such as the inventor’s name, application number, filing date, and the related publication or patent in which the application is referenced. Once submitted with any required fees, the request grants access to the abandoned application’s file contents, as originally filed, or to specific documents within the file. This collection of information is required by 37 CFR 1.11 and 1.14. The information is required to obtain or retain a benefit by the public which is to file (and by the USPTO to process) an application.
