The AAA has been in operation for over 90 years and is headquartered in New York City. The New York State SUM/UM Arbitration Tribunals are a specific type of arbitration panel administered by the AAA. SUM (Supplemental Underinsured Motorists) and UM (Uninsured Motorists) are types of automobile insurance coverage designed to protect policyholders in the event that they are involved in an accident with an at-fault driver who either has no insurance or not enough insurance to cover the damages. When a dispute arises between a policyholder and their insurance company over coverage under these types of policies, the dispute may be resolved through the New York State SUM/UM Arbitration Tribunals.
