Rights-Waiver Form {DC-12}

DC-12 - RIGHTS AND WAIVER. This form is used in the Rhode Island District Court to document that a defendant has been informed of their legal rights during the bail and arraignment process. It confirms that the bail commissioner has advised the defendant that they are being charged with a crime and has explained the defendant's rights. These include the right to remain silent, the right to consult with an attorney and be released on bail, the right to be represented by an attorney (with the possibility of court-appointed counsel if the defendant cannot afford one), and the right to a jury trial, which may be waived in favor of a bench trial in District Court.
