IMPORTANT NOTICE Registering for Parent Education Classes Parent Education Classes are available through the Lincoln County Circuit Court and are mandatory for people who are parties in divorce, separation or custody cases and who have minor children. The person filing the case must register for a class within 21 days of filing a petition. The respondent (the person against whom the case is filed) must be served with this notice about the class and must register for a class within 30 days of being served. Parent Education Classes are generally held at the Newport Visual Arts Center (777 NW Beach Drive Room 2W Newport, OR 97365). However, the dates and location may change, so contact the Court before registering. You can call 265-4236 x123 for a recorded message, or visit the Court's web site at http://ojd.state.or.us/lincoln. Once you have selected a date, fill out the registration form below and return in to the Court. There are 3 parts to this form. The petitioner keeps one for his or her information, uses one to fill out and return to the court, and serves the third on the respondent with the summons and petition. The respondent uses his or her copy to fill out and return to the Court. You will receive a certification when you complete the class. Be sure to file a copy of the certificate with the Court. If you are the petitioner, the judge will not sign a divorce decree until you complete the parent education class and return the certificate to the Court. If you are the respondent, the judge may consider your failure to attend in deciding issues about custody and parenting time (visitation).
