A request for rectification of an obvious error must be submitted in a letter. The rectification may be stated in that letter if it is of such a nature that it can be transferred from the letter to the international application without adversely affecting the clarity and the direct reproducibility of the sheet onto which the rectification is to be transferred; otherwise, the applicant is required to submit a replacement sheet embodying the rectification and the letter containing the request for rectification must draw attention to the differences between the replaced sheet and the replacement sheet (Rule 26.4). ATTENTION No rectification will be made without the express authorization of the competent authority indicated above and, in order to be effective, the authorization by that authority must reach the International Bureau, or be given by the International Bureau, as the case may be, before the completion of the technical preparations for international publication (Rule 91.1(g) to (g-quater)).
